Scriptures on Violence

The Bible Condemns Violence and Violent Men Many passages in the Bible speak out on the issue of

violence, and GOD's attitude toward those that repeatedly use violence:

The LORD tries the righteous: but the wicked and him who loves violence His soul hates (the Faith of

the righteous must be tested, and great Faith must be tested greatly).

Psalms 11:5 (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses

      with violence and deceit.

      Zephaniah 1:9 (KJV)

For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

      Psalms 37:9 (KJV)

In a similar way, 'wrath' or anger is condemned as being sinful, as is sexual abuse:

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God

      James 1:19-20 (KJV)

But fornication (note: that is to say, sexual immorality, including sexual abuse), and all uncleaness

or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor

foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath

any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

      Ephesians 5:3-5 (KJV)

The Earth also was corrupt before God, and the Earth was filled with violence

(meaning that all were corrupted respecting the lineage concerning the union of fallen angels and women).

Genesis 6:11  (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues:  for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

(David prays that the excellent advice of Ahithophel will be "divided."  This prayer was answered

       (II Samuel 15:31.)

Psalms 55:9  (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.  And David said, O LORD,

I pray You, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness (David prayed, but his faith seemed to be

       weak).

II Samuel 15:31  (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

Yes, in heart you work wickedness;  you weigh the violence of your hands in the Earth.  (The hearts of  those

under saul who opposed David were "wicked."  They lived by "violence."   The same could be said

even more so about the oppressors of the Messiah.  As well, it speaks of the "evil hearts" of the

      Antichrist and his followers.)

Psalm 58:2   (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in His sight.

(The "deceit and violence" will be practiced on Israel by the Antichrist and, in fact, by much

of the world.   But all will learn in that day just how precious before God  is the blood of all of

      the Children of Israel.)

Psalm 72:14  (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.  (Such who follow this path of

evil always conclude in  "wickedness" and "violence.")

Proverbs 4:17  (Expositor's Study Bible KJV)

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

      Proverbs  10:6

A violent man entices his neighbour, and leads him into the way that is not good.

(The "violent man"pertains to those who are willing to commit any act to get

      what they want.)

      Proverbs 16:29  (Expositor's Study BibleKJV)
